Today was the "big game" - Utah vs. BYU. The "Holy War" as my friend Mug refers to it. I heard my mom and dad and brother yelling at the TV, and I was... trying to take a nap. I gave up after a while and turned on "Bend It Like Beckham" so I could look at Jonathan Rhys Meyers. When I heard the game end, I went downstairs and nonchalantly asked who won. Apparently the blue side won. Too bad for the Utah fans... *yawn* I got a drink of water and went back upstairs to look and JRM some more.
Am I being too facetious? ;)
I'm sorry, but not only do I not really get into football, I don't buy all the 'Utah vs. BYU' crap. I guess it's not so much the schools as it is the rivalry. Is it necessary? I wasn't even into it in high school - I went to Alta High, and I thought our major rival was Jordan High. I found out years later that Brighton High was considered a bigger rival. Huh.
Can't we all just get along? :)

Nothing wrong about not giving a crap about the rivalry / game... it's just entertainment.
I don't recall there being much, if any, yelling. I don't think mom watched the game much at all, and there were maybe a couple of plays right there at the end of the game that got me excited, but otherwise... Maybe you were actually half asleep and dreaming all that commotion, either that or the TV was just too loud (or maybe the volume of the TV was affecting your dreams, hehe...). Both me and Dad were just enjoying the game, not making a fuss of it. Dad likes both teams, as do I (though I do have a preference for BYU since I attended a few semesters there and haven't attended the U).
I think rivalries can be fun. I just think that in Utah it often gets taken to a nasty level. I remember attending one of those games in person a few years back, and the animosity was palpable... not pleasant.
Let's have a friendly rivalry... but let's ditch the hate and pride (you know... the pride that makes you hate the other team). Play hard, have fun, and remember it's just a game. There will be times when each team wins... winning or losing doesn't prove anything about the schools they represent other than how well they played, were coached, etc. In other words... don't get cocky if your team wins, cause you sure as heck didn't do anything to make that happen, hehe.
Agreed. Though it's hard to have a "friendly" rivlary when fans are beating on each other, and it makes the news... hehehe...
We can all get along. Really well, just not on game day. LOL! :) Congrats to Cougar fans.
I must say that I bleed blue most definately. However we had a fun time watching the game with my sister at my mom's house. It's fun to have a friendly rivalry. I do like me some football. I don't like fans that are disrespectful to any team. When Norte Dame came to play BYU a few years back, Matt and I got stuck in their fan section. I shouldn't say stuck, though. They had some of the coolest fans I have ever been around. They were very corteous and friendly. We even bought cokes for eachother and were passing our popcorn back and forth. I will say that it was a very cool experience for us. I admire those type of fans that enjoy the game and make it enjoyable for other people. I must also admit that BYU has some very obnoxious fans also. I will not point fingers at other and not at my own team. There are some days I want to just punch some fo the BYU fans. That being said. GO COUGARS!! Way to take the MWC championship again!! Rise and Shout the Cougars are out!!
