Long-ish Absence

I realize I haven't posted here in a while... I'm lazy. That's right, lazy. Well, lazy and ill. And busy. I know, I'm ridiculous.

I had a "DUH"-Smack-Myself-On-The-Forehead moment this morning. This might be an over share for any men that might be reading this, so proceed at your own risk. And it's a long (but funny) story.

So last Monday, I wasn't feeling so good; so I stayed home sick from work. Tuesday I was still queasy, but went to work anyway. I was feeling decent enough that evening to take the pooches for a quick walk - which turned out to be a mistake because the wind was blowing so hard that by the time I got back home, my allergies were ballin' out of control. So my mom gave me a prescription-strength allergy pill. I asked her if it would help me sleep, and she said probably not... so she gave me an Ambien (VERY strong sleeping pill, you should see my mom when she takes one, it's very entertaining) to help me sleep too. Well, I woke up on Wednesday morning and got up to open my door and head down the hall to the bathroom to get ready for work, but I lost my balance and slammed into the wall. Then later as I was trying to get ready, I was so dizzy and nauseated I couldn't see straight - so I headed back down the hall to my room to sit down but before I got there, I managed to crash into the door frame of my room. OUCH. So I called in sick, went downstairs and made a piece of toast and drank a Coke to try and settle my stomach, then went back up to bed. A few hours later I woke up, and I was LOOPY. I spoke with a friend from work on the phone, and I was laughing so hard and slurring my words, and I vaguely remember her laughing hysterically and telling me how drugged up I sounded. I apologized and told her I'd see her later, and I hung up. Then for some odd reason, I called my mom. She was visiting grandma. She asked how I was feeling and I started laughing again, still slurring my words. Poor mom. "Uh, Mel, are you sure you're okay?" I giggled and told her I was fine, and hey, could she please swing by Chick-fil-A and get me some chicken nuggets and a giant Coke? I thought I might be hungry. She said she would. So I hung up with her, and laid back down and thought, oh man, it must be the combo of the allergy pill and the Ambien that's making me act so loopy. So I closed my eyes, and suddenly a wave of dizziness hit me so hard, and the room was spinning so fast, that I gripped my blankets and pillows to keep me steady. (As if a blanket and pillow would help if I was really spinning.) When it finally stopped, I got up and barely made it to the bathroom in time to see my toast and Coke come up. Ooohhh, NOT good. When mom came home with my food, I thanked her and told her I wasn't hungry, that I'd thrown up my "breakfast" - but that I'd sip at the Coke and hope that helped.

Well, Thursday I went to work for a couple of hours before I couldn't hack it anymore and went home, and I called in sick again Friday because I was still ultra-nauseated. Saturday I finally had a bit of an appetite, so I tried to eat. Then I went to Costco and grandma's with mom, and that about did me in - I was so tired that I went home and crashed for a few hours before I got up and harassed my brother Steve into going to a bike shop with me. (I DID buy a bike, but that's a post for next week.) I was tired of feeling sick and wanted to do something normal and fun.

By Sunday I was feeling a little more like myself, and just in time too, because Adelaide Elizabeth Knight made her grand entrance that day! I'm an AUNT, hooray!! :) I spent the day in Orem at a cousin's missionary homecoming and then mingling with family over a luncheon, then went home to snooze (I was feeling a little queasy again) before I headed down to the hospital with mom, dad, and Kate to see Mar and Jesse and little Addie.

All this week has been up-and-down - I feel great, I'm sick, I feel great, I'm sick. The other day, I was yawning uncontrollably, and sighing really big - like I couldn't get a decent breath. So I finally got tired of it all, and I called my doctor and made an appointment. I want to eat without fear of it coming back up. I want to drink something other than Coke (sad, since I LOOOOVE Coke) and water. I want to drink a Vanilla Bean from Starbucks! A friend bought me one yesterday and I couldn't take more than three sips. I want to go visit my sister and brother-in-law and niece without fear of getting the little peanut sick. I WANT TO FEEL NORMAL.

(Here's where my "DUH" moment comes in.)

This morning I was thinking about the regular medications I take, because I'm sure they'll ask me at the doc's office this afternoon. Since it's allergy season, I take a Benadryl a couple of nights a week since my allergies are the worst at night. And I take a birth control pill that another doctor prescribed for an issue I went in for about 6 weeks ago, along with one other med that doesn't really do much to my system. I thought back to a conversation I had with a friend at work after I started The Pill about how being on the pill essentially makes your body think you're pregnant - so you gain a few pounds, and maybe feel... nauseated? (This is where I slapped my hand to my forehead and went, "DUH!!!")

When I got to work this morning, I looked up the pill I'm on, and sure enough, found in the fine print that "it is normal to feel sick to your stomach during the first 1-3 months of taking this pill."

OH MAN. I went through all THAT for a stupid PILL??? I feel like such a tool. I've got no appetite, I feel like garbage, and I'm worrying myself to death over thinking this is a really nasty flu-bug of sorts - and it's a PILL. SO not worth it. Of course, I'm keeping my doctor's appointment today, just to bounce this off him and see if he agrees, AND to make sure it's nothing else; but I'm so frustrated right now. I want a giant quesadilla from Cafe Rio, but I'M NOT HUNGRY!! This SO stinks.

Anyway, just for fun here's a picture of me with Adelaide, and then just one of Adelaide. She's SO CUTE!!

I Loved This.

As part of my morning routine when I get to work every day, I check a couple of news websites - ksl.com and cnn.com. I don't know why, maybe I like to see what's happening in Utah - and the rest of the world - from a couple different perspectives.
ANYWAY, on ksl.com this morning, the headlining story was this: "Off Duty Officer Threatened in Road Rage Incident." I had to admit that I was intrigued, so I read the story - and laughed out loud. Here's part of it:

The suspect in a road rage threat apparently picked the wrong motorist to mess with. The victim turned out to be an off-duty police officer. The incident prompted a massive show of law enforcement early this morning.
It started on 500 South in Salt Lake City around 2:30 a.m. An off-duty officer was on his way home from work in an unmarked car. He was just about to drive onto I-15 when another vehicle tried to merge into his lane, nearly hitting his car.
The officer honked his horn to warn the driver. The other driver rolled down his window and allegedly told the officer he was going to kill him. The officer said the man then reached for something under his seat.
At some point a second car tried to help the suspect vehicle corral the police officer off the road. The officer flashed his police lights, and both vehicles took off southbound on I-15.

The officer called in the threat. Within a matter of minutes, nearly 20 police cars from several agencies had stopped the two suspect cars at 4500 South.

I laughed SO hard when I read this. How many times have YOU been wronged in traffic like this, and you wished that there was a cop around to see it and pull the offender over? This time, it was a COP that was wronged. It's just so... funny! It's that funny to me particularly because I've had major road rage issues in the past. I've been pretty good lately, though. THIS guy obviously has a screw loose. He really picked the wrong motorist to mess with because not only did the cop call his posse to chase the guy down, but the story goes on to say that while no gun was located in the suspect's car, cocaine was. Better and better.

Anyway, I just had to share. For the full story, click here: http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=3264529

Happy Friday!

More Cheese with Candy, Please

I went to a movie last night with Mar (my sister) and we saw 'Step Up 2: The Streets' because it's in the dollar theater. I've seen it once before with my sister Kate - but how on earth did I miss blogging about it???? Maybe it was about the time Kate told me I needed new blog topics... and I've blogged about Step Up (the first movie) already.
ANYWAY, this movie is right up my alley!! It has my two favorite things - cheesy story lines and attractive men! It's about a bunch of kids who compete in a dance competition called 'The Streets,' with the typical misunderstood girl trying to be bad-a, and player-type guy (who really reminds me of Gilmore Girls' bad-boy Logan Huntzberger) who bond over dancing and of course fall for each other, and while the story lines are, like I said, cheesy, the dancing is incredible. Besides, I can't pass up the opportunity to post a picture of cute boy Robert Hoffman III...

"HI. I'M HOT. AND YOU ARE...?" Um, totally twitterpated, thanks for asking!
Besides the obvious eye candy, this movie has a phenomenal ending dance sequence in the rain! Cliche? Maybe. But who cares? It's AWESOME.

I think it'd be worth a Redbox rental for a night. You'll end up thinking "I want to learn to do that!" Me, I'll probably own it, just so I can watch that ending dance sequence over and over and over...
